Posted: 11/03/2015 4:10 pm • EDT Updated: March 11, 2015 4:11 pmThe love and dedication that the Wine Producers Association has always shown towards viticulture, oenology and territory, there stands today as champions of this unique nectar that is the Primitivo wine. The history of our cooperative is closely related to this vine.
The adventure of the Consortium, begun in 1928 when a small group of “enlightened” winemakers noting an old establishment, created the “Federation of Wines”, a group of producers that four years later, July 9, 1932 the ufficializzerà its legal form of cooperative with the establishment of the “Consorzio Produttori Vini Mosti and red upper cut to the area of Manduria”.
The company’s fortunes are intertwined inextricably with those of the main product of the territory “Primitivo di Manduria” wine initially relegated to low-ranking improvement of wine, that is intended to strengthen the labels emblazoned French and northern Italy, then mistreated and humiliated during the dark years of the methanol and finally resurrected when the mid-90s it was decided to make a change of direction by focusing on quality and added value of the bottle.
And so, today, convinced that good wine is born again in the fields, it was possible to limit the production base and, thanks to the support of an agronomist, to better follow the work of our members so that they produce each year and healthy grapes from superior organoleptic qualities.
The Consorzio Produttori Vini now has 900 hectares of vineyards, more than half still bred with the traditional sapling and strongly defends the work of 400 artisans of the wine, the only ones that can boast of the title of Masters in Primitivo.
The heritage of a strong tradition were added research projects initiated by the National Research Council and the University of Bari, strict compliance with the rules of production of the Doc “Primitivo di Manduria” combined with a strong focus on the environment and dell ‘ hygiene with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and BRC IFS.
But like any great wine that also respects the Primitivo di Manduria Doc needed to be told, lived, celebrated, in essence a precise identity, and is unequivocal on this point that the Consortium has invested resources and energy making their attacks . Besides which bond can be considered stronger than that between a wine and the land it comes from? This led to the preparation, in the oldest and underground tanks of the cellar of a rich museum of importance ethnographic and documentary about the millennial relationship between the people of Manduria and the art of making wine, also from 2003 to edit a magazine ” Alceo Salento “that dealing in a varied and innovative themes of wine culture and territory has been able to quickly win the favor of a large audience.
