Tasting Notes

Basilicata is located at the Southeastern in-step of Italy’s boot-like base. It is the home to the famous Monte Vulture, which is a magnificent dormant volcano. It is due to the past volcanic activities that the soil in the region is extremely fertile and prime for almost every agricultural development. Due to the extreme climatic conditions due the influence of three coastline, namely Adriatic, Ionian and Tyrrhenian, and also the mountainous terrain. It is at these slopes that the best grapes are being produced. Ample sunshine ripens the fruits while the elevated cool climate retains the much critical acidity that will eventually produce a very well-balanced wine.

Primitivo, also known as Zinfandel in USA, is a black-skinned grape variety that typically produces very robust wines with perfumy notes. Although it is widely planted at Apulia, an Italian wine region at the “heel” of the country, Basilicata as its neighbour, is very well-known for small boutique production that focus on quality and character.

This Vigna Giadi Basilicata IGT Primitivo wine shows very pronounced notes of ripe raspberry, blackberries and subtle notes of spices like anise and pepper. Very soft on the tannins and approachable which also displays sweet fruit notes with a very refreshing mouth-feel.
