Tasting Notes

As of 2015, Montepulciano grape variety (not to be confused with the village of Montepulciano in Tuscany which is well-known for producing Vino Nobile di Montepulciano using Snagiovese grape variety) is the second most planted red grape in Italy, just behind Sangiovese. Mostly planted in central and southern part of the Italy whereby the warmer climatic conditions favours the growth of the grapes, it usually produces wines that are deeply coloured, rich in flavours, high alcohol, strong structure yet soft in acidity.

Azienda Agricola Monti lies in the mountainous and hilly agricultural region of Abruzzo, south of Italy, overlooking the Adriatic Sea. This family managed boutique winery place their unwavering passion and philosophy of producing wines that truly reflects the terroir, hence instead of calling themselves wine producers, they prefer to be known as wine craftsman. One of their prized vineyard location is situated on the Pignotto Hill, highly reputed as the Cru of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, with an ideal mix of sandy and calcareous soil with abundance of grape-ripening sunshine.

This “Voluptas” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC displays a very floral, fruit-driven nose of black cherry fruits and ripe red fruits. Firm tannins and strong structure on the palate with subtle notes of pepper, liquorice and tobacco. The finishing is just like its label describe, “Voluptas”, in Latin means pleasure.
