Rosso di Montalcino is a 100% Sangiovese red wine produced from the town of Montalcino located in south of Tuscany. Although it is often known as “Baby Brunello”, it is a separate tier from its more internationally recognized Brunello di Montalcino, as its establishment is to give Brunello wine producers the flexibility to make wines without the long ageing requirement as govern by the production of Brunello. This enable them to release their wines earlier that has more robust primary fruits characteristics and also to allow the producers to generate a more sustainable cash flow.
The Sangiovese grapes is a very important native and signature red grape of Italy, usually has thin skins and hence often produces softer style of red wines. However, due to the warmth and dry climatic conditions in Montalcino, the Sangiovese grapes ripens much more, building up rich flavours and concentration.
Castello Tricerchi, means castle of the Tricerchi family, has a long history dated back to the twelfth century, with the Tricerchi family even obtaining nobility. The castle historically served as a fortress to provide shelter and protection for pilgrims traveling to the Vatican City and in 1982 is declared as an artistic and heritage site.
This wine displays rich aromas of tasty red cherries, redcurrants, red fruits and strawberry, with hints of spice and black pepper. It provides firm tannins on the palate and shows significant mineralty, showcasing a well-balanced wine with long finishing.
For international food - recommended pairing with grilled chicken, lamb racks, drink by itself.
For local delights - recommended pairing with stir-fried beef slice with ginger, BBQ meat (Satay).
